A seat becomes
a space.

DÂ-NIYI—a name conceived to evoke “Sitting as One”—asks how the individual act of sitting might become the beginning of a collective experience.

Drawing from the Nuna dâgalo chair tradition of Burkina Faso, the work reinterprets a three-legged stance, deep recline, and elongated back through contemporary materials and fabrication. It engages the cultural and spatial intelligence of the source form while developing a distinct contemporary object.

A discreet connection system is being developed to bring independent chairs into pairs, gatherings, and circles—proposing a courtyard without walls. A full circle of 28 chairs is planned as an exploration of how furniture can create a shared spatial setting.

One is a chair. Two is a conversation.
Three is a gathering. More becomes a space.

Prototype 001 pairs aluminum with white oak veneer. The planned production version will use wenge wood veneer over a plywood substrate, alongside the collection’s other material expressions.

A detachable neck pillow is planned for additional support; its placement and attachment remain in development.
